Programme delivery The Strengthening Families Programme 10- 14 ( UK) has seven two hour sessions for parents and young people who attend separate skill- building groups for the first hour and spend the second hour together in supervised family activities. Four optional booster sessions are designed to be used six months to one year after the end of the first seven sessions to reinforce the skills gained in the original sessions. Programme topics Youth sessions focus on strengthening goal setting, dealing with stress and strong emotions, communication skills, increasing responsible behaviour, and improving skills to deal with peer pressure. Parents' topics include making house rules, encouraging good behaviour, using consequences, building bridges, and protecting against alcohol and substance misuse. Families have fun in activities and games, discuss what makes a family strong and solve problems together. " I work with families where there is a high risk of children becoming involved in crime and/ or anti- social behaviour and I have taught over 100 families on the Strengthening Families Programme. On each programme I eagerly anticipate the point where a parent realises that he or she can, by making changes to their own behaviour, have a positive effect on their child's behaviour."
